Kelantan has made a good move by recruiting its civil servants who are nonsmokers. This follows yesterday’s motion at its state legislative assembly sitting.
Other agency that supports such move is International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). This is evident when it recruits new staff or is having new student intakes. Therefore, the job application forms must and should carry indemnity declaring that the applicant is a nonsmoker. If he OR she makes a false declaration, he or she will consider it as unsuccessful. During interviews, the interviewer will be requiring the candidate to scour pockets of pants, jackets, and shirts or even hand bag for ladies for cigarette box that is stashed inside them.
So now, it’s time for other states, be they Barisan or Pakatan-led government to follow suit. This will create a smoke-free government.
