After 2 years of hiatus, CapitalFM 88.9, once English rival to RTM‘s KLfm goes back on air today. It has since relocated from Concorde Hotel to Tropicana City. It is now under new management of Star Radio, which in turn also operates other stations under its stable such as 988, redfm, and SuriaFM.
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s first women’s radio station Capital FM 88.9 is sizzling the airwaves now.
It features a hand-picked line-up of celebrity presenters Asha Gill, Joanne Kam, Xandria Ooi, Patricia K, Sheela Haran, April Kuan, Joey G and Liang who will each bring their own flavour to the radio station.
Listeners can start their day with Talk of the Town breakfast segment from 6am to 10am, hosted by the outspoken Joanne Kam and her charming foil Joey G.
Dynamic duo Xandria Ooi and Liang will go on air with The Jam Breakfrom 4pm to 8pm for some thought-provoking chat topics while keeping listeners company during their drive home from the office.
Sheela Haran brings sexy back with Groovedown from 8pm to midnight with some good old R&B and urban groove tunes.
Her segment offers a “safe haven” for women as they are invited to share their thoughts and questions on relationships and social lifestyle.
Described as a “walking music encyclopedia”, deejay April Kuan will keep listeners entertained on Saturday Global Passport from 10am to 2pm and Sunday Jazzscapes from 2pm to 6pm.
Saturday Global Passport offers an opportunity to listen to music from all over the world, ranging from K-Pop, African, South American to European, while Sunday Jazzscapes features various forms of jazz like acid jazz, soul jazz and funk jazz to ease listeners as they get ready for the next working day.
Programme consultant Aanont Martin Robert Wathanasin, better known as Non, said the station’s predominantly female deejay line-up was deliberate as “Capital FM is a real radio station for real women”.
“We hope to develop a sense of community with our listeners. The station’s message is we are women, we hear you, we listen to you and we want you to speak up,” he said.
Capital FM, which began transmission at 6am today. is an unformatted radio station, with its playlist mainly skewed towards urban adult contemporary music.
Star Publications (M) Bhd group managing director/CEO and Star Radio group chairman Ho Kay Tat credited Capital FM’s unique tagline “Women The New Capital” to Star Publications executive deputychairman Datuk Vincent Lee, who coined it as a tribute to and recognition of women’s value and importance.
Present at Capital FM 88.9’s launch were Star Radio group deputy chief broadcasting officer C.K. Tan and Star Publications executive director/group chief editor Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai.
